About

My name is J. Riley Sweeney and like many of you, I grew up right here in the Pacific Northwest. I attended public school while growing up and then came to Whatcom County for college. When I arrived at WWU, I fell in love – in love with this beautiful place we all share, and in love with my wife of twelve years, Bryna.

Together, we put down roots and started our family out on E. Pole Road where we enjoy the beautiful sunny days, hide from the biting Fraser valley winds, and occasionally grow some semi-decent tomatoes in our garden.

For the last eight years, I have worked for the City of Ferndale as their communication officer and recreation coordinator. I helped residents navigate hard conversations about controversial subjects, represented our law enforcement officers in the media, and created some incredible community events for kids and families in Ferndale’s parks.

As a twenty year Whatcom County resident, I’m proud to be part of the Meridian School community. I enjoy volunteering in my son’s class at Irene Reither Elementary and was recently elected to the PTA. However it is clear to me that our Meridian Schools need our help.
